December 2015

Dear Reader,

Sometimes Christmas comes early! At least this is true this year for me.

Back on the weekend of October 17th, I was attending the Lake Mirror Classic in Lakeland, Florida. This special OPEN (no gate) car-show-for-everyone blocks off a huge portion of downtown Lakeland and the adjacent Lake Mirror Park. Hosted by Ford Heacock (Heacock Insurance) this event has a new car show, hot rod rally, special club meet areas for Model A’s, Corvettes, Mustangs, exotic cars, and a Concours d’Elegance on the east side of beautiful and calm Lake Mirror. The Concours awards ceremony on Sunday was halted at about mid-way on a glorious sunny, dry, warm (not hot) Florida afternoon in order for Ford Heacock to present a Lee Iacocca Award. This prestigious award is presented to an individual “for dedication to excellence in perpetuating American Automotive Tradition”. The recipient was: ME! I was surprised and honored to join the esteemed roster of Lee Iacocca Award winners. It is indeed a humbling experience to be included in such a distinguished group recognized by our peers and the Lee Iacocca Foundation. And, to be one of the last recipients before this award is grandfathered, is even more exhilarating. I am most grateful to Ford and the folks at National Parts Depot for considering me for this prestigious award. This is truly a great early Christmas present that I humbly share with the whole staff here at the duPont REGISTRY™. Without their constant hard work and dedication, I am sure that I would not have even been considered as an acceptable candidate for the Lee Iacocca Award.

For those of you considering gifts for your friends and family (and even yourself), please look carefully at our Gift Guide. You will note that “price available upon request” is repeated quite often. This will help you “surprise” your gift recipient even more. Be sure to take note of the Mitchell Catalina Custom Pool Table (for your home), the “x-treme speaker system” by MBL (for your ears), the Corneliani Cufflinks (for your wrist), and the light-weight Scheyden eyewear (for your eyes). And, many more exclusive, luxurious gifts for the discriminating connoisseur.

If you need to give or receive a rolling piece of automotive art this year, there are two each of our Publisher’s Choice and Publisher’s Showcase. These are all fabulous and unique:

The extraordinary Thomassima II is one of three built by Tom Meade in the 1960’s. Ferrari power wrapped in exotic European styling, it is a one-off dream super-car (see page 101).

The other Publisher’s Choice is an unusual Porsche 918. One of two prepared in authentic Gulf racing livery, it even comes with its own custom luggage and key fob. The performance of the 918 innovative plug-in hybrid concept and super-car is practically unrivaled. A must for the true auto-connoisseur’s gift list (see pages 62-63).

Publisher’s Showcase features two different, but equally exciting potential gifts for the enthusiast. The first heralds the return of the

Trans-Am with the built-to-order 7T7 Bandit. American made with 840 hp and a 10-second quarter mile, the classic muscle car icon is complete with Gold Eagle highlights and, of course, a T-Top (see pages 58-59).

The final Publisher’s Showcase is a super-car that everyone knows and covets. This one is the Lexus LFA Nürburgring #367 in Race Yellow with Black Alcantara® interior. Still wrapped in plastic from the factory, it has just 40 miles. Be the envy of your neighborhood on Christmas Day (see page 85).

Need any help with your search for the perfect gift? Call us and we will get to work now…in time for Christmas.

Happy Motoring,

P.S. Between now and the final days of 2015, many of you will be traveling. On vacation or business, during those trips through busy airports, train stations, etc., you will most likely spot one of our military personnel on their way home for the holidays. Please be sure to stop and give the gift of a “thank you” to any and all of our wonderful men and women in uniform. Every day they give us the gift of freedom. Join me in saying “thanks”, not just now, but throughout the year. In the meantime, I wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and the Happiest of Holidays. Happy SAFE Motoring!
