Well, Bill Warner and his extremely well equipped team of professionals and volunteers did it again! For the second year in a row, Mother Nature and her partner Old Man Weather, tried to best the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance (and the related shows, auctions, expos). But to no avail. Bill and his team decided early on to rearrange the weekend and stare down the forces of nature. The result was very, very busy and very, very successful. Congratulations to everyone, on another great Amelia.
Importantly, the level of buying and selling at the various auctions over the Amelia weekend was unaffected by the weather. It takes some rather deep-dive analysis to really compare 2017 and 2018, but suffice to say sales were quite strong. Gross sales were down but only due to few top dollar cars being offered. Some of the most expensive cars that were offered didn’t sell and that had a significant effect on the big dollar target as well. In total, the live auction results showed 334 of 489 cars sold for a 68% sell through and a total of $80 million+ sold. That’s almost a quarter million per car average … strong by any standard. For the record, the top 10 sold cars went for a total of $7,986,800, at an average of over three quarters of a million dollars each.
