duPont REGISTRY January 2017
$ 6.95

Dear Reader,

                Happy New Year!  It’s 2017 and the election process for President of the United States has concluded.  We are greatly relieved. It was a long, arduous process, no matter who you supported.  I join the chorus of patriots that look toward a promising future for our country.  There is a lot of work to do.  Let’s get to it.

                Welcome to the first quarter of 2017 events list:

  • Mecum Auction – Kissimmee, FL, Friday, January 6 – Saturday, January 14.  At least eight special collections are offered throughout the week, as part of an auction total of around 3,000 automobiles.  Last year, they sold $93 million, with a 78% sell through.  This year includes cars from the legendary collection of “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, a motoring hero and Florida celebrity.

  • Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, AZ, Saturday, January 14 – Sunday, January, 22. As Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale goes, so goes the market.  This year is another round of fabulous, special, collectible automobiles with more than the usual “charity auctions”.  Steven Tyler’s Hennessey Venum GT Spyder will cross the block on Friday, January 21 at prime time, for the benefit of  Janie’s Fund, a charitable organization that helps neglected and abused girls navigate today’s crazy world by providing the resources for them to heal and succeed.  Don’t miss this chance to own a super-car with provenance, and have 100% of the proceeds go to a deserving charity.
  • Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance, Boca Raton, FL, Friday, February 10 – Sunday, February 12. This year’s stunning event filled weekend will be appropriately complemented by an auction, presented by “The Finest”.    This will be their 3rd auction and it will follow their successful Aspen/Snowmass event held this past September.  It will be held at the Boca Raton Resort and Club on Saturday from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.  Be there.
  • Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Amelia Island, FL, Friday, March 10 – Sunday, March 12. This is the 2017 first quarter finale and what a great ending.  Always an enthusiast favorite, “The Amelia” received the prestigious EFG International Motoring Award for “Best Motoring Event of the Year.”  The Amelia was the only American Nominee.  So don’t miss the RM Sotheby’s Auction, the Saturday Cars & Coffee, the multiple seminars for all enthusiasts, the gala honoring Al Unser, Sr. and the always fair-weather Sunday Concours.  Look for us there.

This issue would not be complete without some mention of our special section, A Buyers Gallery of Fine Aircraft.  There is a special offer from JetSmarter and options from several other charter operators and fractional ownership groups.  These are some great ways to get around the country without your pre-check I.D.  Traveling to auctions, Concours, auto shows, the mountains and the beach can’t be any easier.

Happy 2017 to all, and…

Happy Motoring,

Thomas L. duPont
