Summer is here, marking the time for vacations and family fun! Exotics and convertibles come out of their garages, and road trips begin, boats hit the water and people start jetting to more remote locations.
At this time of year, I often fancy myself as a meteorologist because of my intense interest in the weather when thinking about cars, events, travel and all seasonally-related things. During the summer travel scene, the weather becomes a hot (HOT!) topic because even the most ferocious pilots want to avoid offending a line of summer thunderstorms. Well, over the years, I have never, ever gotten it right ... on the weather. The marketplace for classic, luxury and exotic cars is a whole different story. That environment, believe me, is hot, very hot.
There are more cars for sale, more buyers available and in a rising economy, both forces (buying and selling) are clashing like a wonderful summer thunderstorm rolling through the neighborhood causing no damage (except a good soaking) and resulting in a champagne sunset. So it is with car sales for the rest of the summer. The one-off, bespoke, “private treaty” marketplace is loaded, the high end, luxury and exotic car dealers are intensely busy, the auctions are chock-full of offerings … and there are more auctions than ever.
This is a little bit of short notice, but for those of you who have not yet planned your travel for the last weekend in June you should definitely plan to go to the second annual Barrett-Jackson Northeast, held at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in eastern Connecticut (June 21-24). This is a beautiful setting in the rolling hills just north of New London.
